Jules Heartly | March 19th, 2020 Day FOUR of my day-to-day during Covid19-Mandated life changes.
Little things Go a Long Way.
Our lives during this StayCation have been formatted around going out ONLY for absolutely needed errands, like grocery shopping. When I did that this morning, I was surprised to see a line outside of Trader’s Joe just to get in. No, it wasn’t because they were rationing groceries or anything, it was just a good preventive step to avoid overcrowding the place. As I waited outside, in a long line 😉 I thought of the reality we were living. It seemed a sad thing to be outside in the rain, making a line to buy a few groceries to cook lunch, but then I looked at the bright side, well, at least we could do that. We were alive and healthy, at least for now. 😉
Inside the store, something beautiful happened. All the customers were offered bouquets, as an appreciation gesture. I got one for myself and one for my mother. It really made our day. I forgot about the line outside, and all I wanted to do was to get home and put them in a nice vase. I enjoyed looking at the beautiful colors of each one of the flowers.

Later, I went out for my every-other-day walk, and I was happy to encounter some families walking together, some even with their pets. Not the usual babysitters around, but the parents having a chance to care for their children. As I continued my walk through my usually quiet neighborhood at that time of the day, I listened to children playing in their home’s backyards. For a moment, it felt like a Sunday walk, with occasional joggers, and even some cyclists. Never a crowded street, but yes, a sense of quiet family life on a day off.
As I got back home, my 90-something-year old neighbor greeted me from her window. “My dog is keeping me company today, and my in-law is making me a Martini. No need to go outside.” she said. I smiled back as I reflected on how all those little things we sometimes take for granted went a long way to fill our hearts.
We are #AllInThisTogether so let’s appreciate every moment of togetherness with our friends and family even from the distance of our mobiles. #DoYourPartNYC and #StayHome
Highlight of my day:
Joining 160,000 people around the world, well, mostly Italians for the online LIVE Andrea Bocelli mini-concert, at the usual 1:00 p.m. Eastern standard time (6:00 p.m. Italy time).
The music was, of course, magnificent, and living the strong attitude of the Italians in the middle of a very critical moment in their lives, was very uplifting.

How did you cope today?
I would love to hear from you.
