WISHING UPON A STAR

WHEN DOES A WISH COMES TRUE?

JULES HEARTLY | DECEMBER 2023

There are universal wishes, like A WISH ON A STAR

“Star light, star bright
First star I see tonight
I wish I may, I wish I might
Have this wish I wish tonight.”

There is the birthday wish we make secretly right before blowing the candle ….

And then there’s  the Christmas wish.   Kids and even adults make a wish and share it with a figure like Santa Claus or just with the silent world of the vast sky, or written on a once-white paper where the words found their way without asking why.

We all make a wish, a good one hoping  for something miraculous to happen.

What motivates the wishes changes,  but The Wish is pronounced usually out of Joy in a most likely happy moment.  An instant when our faith is strongest and little room is left for “error”, for inner sabotage,  and a Tiny room if any is left for not getting it fulfilled….

And when we  make that magical wish we can almost feel it and visualize it realized, achieved, attained, reached.  That is a perfect wish moment and execution. And when done this way upon a star or upon a flick candle the chances of a miraculous attainment are much greater.

But sometimes in our daily lives we have those desires, goals, intentions, objectives we badly want to be achieved, but we doubt ourselves or we are distracted for the perhaps non successful memories of past experiences or for any present situation and by doing so, we disrupt the perfect visualization of the accomplished goal most likely delaying its realization.

But kids are different, they still have the strongest of faiths.  Their only distraction is the certainty of their wishes manifesting.  In other words, even the distraction is the resolve to make the wish and believe is coming true.

And knowing this, it is understandable that many children around the world from Christmas celebrating families, are looking forward to the holiday season to cast their most unbelievable wishes.

And the marketing gurus take advantage of this no-brainer  making the commercial holiday season begin earlier and earlier every year. The shopping Malls dress for the occasion and there is the perfect equation.

Some time ago it started on Thanksgiving day with the arrival of Santa Claus at the end of the Thanksgiving Parade, now it starts in October, beating even the Halloween events.

For years the holiday music started being played in the malls and radio stations in early November, and the Santa’s started their work at the Mall’s earlier to accommodate all the holiday photo shots to be printed out in holidays cards to be sent across the globe.

Nowadays the holiday cards are instant messages for the most part.

But nevertheless the Chris Kriingles of the malls continue to show up early, to listen to children’s wishes for their magical day.

A Christmas wish is considered as magical as wishing upon a star.

“Wishing on a star is simulating a desired future,” said Bertram Malle, a professor of psychology at Brown University. “If you then wish for something that you can control, you might strengthen your goal and initiate planning and persistence; if you wish for something you cannot control, you might at least have the momentary glow of an imagined world,” he said.

We wish because we dream, and we dream because we hope. And hope is the thing that keeps us going.

And the magic of making that wish at a specific moment  gets enhanced by traditions and by the suggestive decorations reminding everyone all possibilities are open.  The illusion is born and fed. The Wizards are ready.

Many kids wish for toys of all sorts, but what about those kids,  who don’t make that sort of wish? What would they ask for ? and why?

Well, I had the opportunity to learn about an unique wish from a 5-year old who whispered and then almost shouted it to a working  Santa at the mall:

I wish the bad guys who kidnapped my dad let him free so he can be home for Christmas!

Did he get his wish?

What do you think?

Find out whether you guessed it right by reading the recently released novel based on true stories, IN THE SHADOWS OF GUNSHOTS.  Available in Amazon, Hardcover, Paperback and ebook formats.

In the meantime, let’s keep wishing upon a star! and let’s do it with Joy in our hearts and visualizing the desired result!

And please share with me your experiences when making wishes and achieving wonderful results(I know there is a lot more to it!) and of course tell me about holiday traditions that bring “miracles”.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
