Covid19-Staycation Blog. Day SEVEN. Stores Should Do More to Prevent The #covid19 Spreading.

Jules Heartly | March 22th, 2020  Day SEVEN of my day-to-day during Covid19-Mandated life changes.

Stores Must Do Their Part to Stop the #Covi19 Spread.

As a lot of us are getting tired of news about the spread of the #CoronaVirus, and are doing our best to continue our lives, taking all needed precautions. We are all taking extra steps to prevent the spread from happening, taking our shoes off before we enter our homes, washing our hands frequently, etc. . But would it make sense that the few places we visit in those moments when we leave our houses, do the same? I am talking about businesses allowed to stay open,  the few retail stores, gas stations, supermarkets, and pharmacies.  Every time I go to the supermarket, at the POS sale, even if I am using a credit card, I am forced to use the touchpad/Keypad (unless you have the wave feature in your credit/debit cards). The keypads are not cleaned after each customer, so that alone is a big spreading point. Sometimes the cashier asks you to handle your card. There is another spreading point.

I suggest the stores implement the setting in their points of sales system where all cards regardless of whether they are Debit or Credit cards go as credit and skip the “Enter the Pin” part, to minimize the need to touch the keypad.

Also, the cashier or an assistant should wipe the keypad each time a customer uses it. This should be done regardless.

Doing so would eliminate one spreading point of contact.

Do you have any other ideas of how the community could help to stop  this global #COVID19 pandemic?

I would love to hear from you.

  1. Indeed I had the same thoughts last time I went to supermarket. Handling the POS was the unique weak point of my anti-contagion strategy. I was wearing disposable gloves, so the problem was with the credit card itself. Result was that I put it into my shopping bags instead of my wallet, and I cleaned it properly with a wet wipe once home. But I was wondering if I had to make this operation with naked hands or with gloves, may be with new gloves, and isn’t it a pity to waste another pair?
